We are excited to share the initial design for an extraordinary semi-detached residence in Bronte — a project that, while currently on hold, holds incredible unrealised potential. This property has been part of the same family for over 60 years, set on a dramatic, steeply sloping site that falls from the street to a rear lane.
Historically, the slope created a disconnection between the living spaces and the outdoor areas, and the orientation meant much of the home was deprived of natural light. Our design reimagines the site completely, overcoming these challenges with elegant, future-focused solutions.
The vision redefines how the family could live:
- A direct and seamless connection to a new rear-lane garage.
- An elevated swimming pool, floating like a jewel above the rear garden.
- A transformed basement, now an inviting, light-filled kitchen and living zone opening straight onto the garden.
- A dedicated upper-level parents’ retreat and office, providing privacy, space, and flexibility for a growing family’s needs.
Every element of the design works in harmony. We reconfigured the rear of the house to create a generous outdoor dining area and wrapped the backyard with a dramatic floating roof canopy, offering shelter and style while tying the outdoor and indoor spaces together beautifully.
The new middle and upper floors balance private bedrooms with vibrant shared spaces. To future-proof the home for multi-generational living, a lift has been integrated discreetly into the plan.
Meanwhile, refined roof forms and crafted upper spaces not only integrate into the streetscape seamlessly but also channel precious northern light deep into the heart of the home.
This is more than a renovation — it is a bold reimagining of what family living on a challenging site could be. It demonstrates how light, space, and a deep connection to land and sky can be captured in a way that feels both effortless and sophisticated.
We are immensely proud of this design — meeting the challenge of a complex brief. We hope to see this project realised someday.
