Horizon Apartment
We recently had the pleasure of completing a thoughtful refurbishment of an existing apartment in Sydney’s iconic Horizon building. The brief? To breathe new life into a space that had become tired and cluttered — and to turn it into a deeply personal and functional home.
Our client approached us with a clear goal: refresh the joinery in the kitchen, bathroom, and study, and create space for a lifetime of cherished possessions — including inherited art, books, and unique ornaments. Years of accumulated items had started to hinder the apartment’s livability, and it was time for a change.
But this project wasn’t just about aesthetics — it was about making the space truly his. We saw the potential to turn a generic apartment into one that was uniquely tailored to its occupant. Together with interior designer Angela Morrison, we selected finishes that added warmth and charm: from French wash paint effects to bespoke wallpaper, handpicked lighting, fabrics, and hardware.
One standout challenge was integrating pre-purchased statement pieces — including a striking Venetian glass chandelier — with new lighting schemes that combined recessed and canned downlights, and ambient strip lighting in the bathroom and study. The result was a rich layering of old and new, moody and practical.
Function was just as important as form. In the study, we designed a bespoke daybed that doubles as a guest bed, complete with deep drawer storage beneath. Every piece of joinery was custom-designed to meet specific needs — from tailored shelving for oversized antique bird books, to cabinetry that concealed (or displayed) select art and office essentials.
By reorienting key spaces and refining the layout, we created a more streamlined, simplified home — one that’s easier to live in, more visually cohesive, and fully aligned with the client’s current lifestyle.
This project is a reminder that great design isn’t about starting from scratch — sometimes, it’s about reimagining what’s already there. With the right attention to detail, collaboration, and a clear vision, any space can become a true reflection of its owner.
