Reconnecting architecture with its landscape.
Set on a steep, fragmented site in Bellevue Hill, this project began with a simple brief: expand the garage and add a lift to future-proof the home. But as the design evolved, so did the ambition, ultimately leading to a full transformation of the property’s external spaces.
Originally, the house sat disconnected from its surroundings. Awkward circulation and poor landscape planning left the outdoor areas underused and underlit. Our design response was to completely reimagine how the home engaged with the site, resolving layers of outdated renovations and enhancing structural coherence.
Anchored around a series of stepped terraces, the new layout introduces multiple outdoor zones, each with its own relationship to the internal living areas. The previously isolated above-ground pool, perched above the garage, was cleverly retained and integrated into a generous upper terrace that now feels seamless and inviting.
Lush landscaping reclaims the edges of the home, flooding previously dark and damp areas with light, air, and visual connection. The result is a house that now sits comfortably within its environment, defined by flow, greenery, and relaxed sophistication.
This project is a testament to how thoughtful architectural intervention can unlock the full potential of a site and enhance the daily lives of its occupants. This project was built by Oneup.
