Rose Bay House
A Family Home Connected to Light, Life and the Outdoors
This home in Rose Bay came to our clients with great bones, but its internal layout didn’t suit the way their young family lives. Rooms felt closed in, the garden was underused, and there was no practical place to store the bikes, surfboards and outdoor gear that are part of their everyday rhythm.
Our design carefully rebalanced the home — opening it up, simplifying circulation, and creating spaces that feel connected, flexible and effortless to live in.
At the entry, we transformed the former front sitting room into a beautifully resolved storage zone, complete with custom cabinetry for shoes, bags and family equipment. Everything now has a place, making mornings smoother and arrivals calmer.
The heart of the home is now the reimagined rear living and dining space. By removing internal walls and improving natural light, we created a bright, welcoming area that flows directly to the garden. A new outdoor terrace, complete with adjustable louvre canopy, provides a year-round gathering place for cooking, dining and relaxing.
To give the family both connection and privacy, we introduced a large sliding wall that allows the children’s play area to be opened up or closed off as needed — a flexible space that evolves as the family grows.
Upstairs, the main bedroom and ensuite were redesigned to improve comfort and natural ventilation. Throughout the home, increased cross-breezes, daylight and solar integration bring the home into a more sustainable and thoughtful future. Even the pool was redesigned — slightly reduced in size to create more lawn for play, without losing the joy of summer swims.
